“R.E.M.S. Casa Badesse”, or Residence for the Execution of Security Measures, is a newly conceived structure envisaged by the Italian law to replace the outdated and not very effective O.P.G. (Judicial Psychiatric Hospitals). The structure was obtained from a former district house (prison) in a state of abandonment and completely recovered. It welcomes patients who have committed crimes and who are afflicted with psychiatric pathologies. Unlike the prison system, the facility is managed entirely by healthcare personnel in order to ensure patient care and recovery.

Paintings, which can make you dream!

The paintings exhibited at REMS by the painter Angela Mrositzki: “I think of my paintings on these white walls as colored windows, openings to the world beyond the walls of a former prison, of art entering a closed space, isolated from society. I think of art as a window to the world to bring this space back into our society. A space where guests and operators spend a daily life with its rules and boundaries. Perhaps only art can have the magical power to go beyond these boundaries, to bypass reality, to make those who live and work their dream. Dreaming is an emotion, it is a state of our human being that makes us discover unknown worlds. Dreaming is a journey that I like to share with those who enter my paintings with their eyes, minds and hearts."
